running back home
By Joseph Zambotti
The level sidewalks and streets of Jersey seemed distant memories as I trudged up the home hills this morning. Garmin tells me the elevation difference on today's route is about 125 feet. One hundred twenty five feet! I can throw this computer that far. Horizontally, 125 feet is nothing. Forty two yards on the football field, an easy half pitching wedge, it's about the width of my front yard. Even vertically, unless you think in terms of deep water, it's not a lot of distance. Driving in your car, you would be aware of the hill I climb in my Mizuno's, but certainly wouldn't consider down shifting! But I'll tell ya, running it is a different world than the flatness of New Jersey. If you live in an area where rain has to decide which way to flow, enjoy the level. However, if you have some hills.....well, everyone knows the hills are good for you.
